This letter is to the people who should be taking action.
I love Bountiful, but because of health reasons I may be forced to leave because of the air. I have severe asthma and must always carry an inhaler. I also have had to have multiple surgeries on both eyes for retina reattachments, cataract removal and scleral belting. I have been lucky enough to have the work done by an expert in the field, Dr. Claron Alldredge, who has given numerous presentations substantiating the dangerous effects the air quality has on people’s vision.
Finally, I have M.S., which has been proven to worsen the disease symptoms. Dr. John Foley, who runs the Rocky Mountain Multiple Sclerosis Clinic, sees hundreds of people who are trying to get better or at least not to worsen. This is made difficult because of the filthy air.
I resent being constantly told that because of my health, I should not go out and breathe the air. Because of the Holly refinery’s contribution to this air, I find it this unacceptable as this air makes it unsafe for me to even leave my own home. This is quite an infringement on my ability to live my life both inside and out. If this is so life threatening to me, it is obviously a threat to those who don’t have even disabilities.
I have been a good “Bountifulite” for 20 years. I have no debt and pay my taxes without question. I deserve better than this. I have a young daughter that is exposed to this pollution. How can you have no regard for the children and grandchildren who cannot escape from this toxic waste?!
I brought my daughter to Bountiful as, at the time, it was one of the cleanest, safest places to live. I did not expect to decrease her life span because of this horrid air. If nothing is done to deny the Holly refinery’s expansion, in the near future, you will be losing good people as they are terrified of living with the effects of our current polluted air.
I believe that if the general public was made aware of the consequences of this pollution, I would not be surprised if most of them would choose to relocate. I would strongly request that you would put an end to this horrifying situation. I do not possess the statistics bearing out the deaths and dangers of this air. I have, however, reviewed them and find that they substantiate my personal fear of the consequences of the refineries, in specific, the Holley refinery, which seems to be the worst contributor to this disastrous condition.
I think you have a duty to protect our citizens. Please do not allow the continuation of the excessive polluting of our air.
