WOODS CROSS – The battle over the Davis County Commission Seat A will shape up after June 24’s primary election day.

The Clipper, in its efforts to inform voters on those who hope to represent them – has allowed Republican incumbent Bret Millburn and his challenger Brian Muir to make their case prior to the primary election.

Whoever wins of the two Republicans will go against Democrat Steven J. Andersen this fall.

Seat B of the commission race was won by a 60 percent-plus margin in the Republican Convention by Jim Smith, who will face a Democratic and Constitution Party candidate this fall.

Here are the primary candidate’s profiles, in their own words:

Bret Millburn:

I stand by my record of service as Commissioner. Davis County continues to rank as one of the top Counties in the State and Nation. Key areas of success include: Fiscal Responsibility-Through fiscal constraint, prudent prioritization, and innovative strategies, Davis County has not implemented a property tax increase during my tenure and maintains its AAA bond rating. Economic Development-Davis County has the State’s highest per capita job growth rate. Once vacant parcels are now developed, generating over $1 million in new revenue. VISION, STRATEGY, and the ability to EXECUTE are skills I have, the things I do, and will continue to do as your Commissioner.

Brian Muir:

I’m prepared to help Davis County reach higher!  I have a Masters of Public Administration (BYU) and for the last 12 years I’ve helped over 140 cities and counties across the country improve their organizations and communities.  I’ve trained employees and elected officials on customer service, leadership, ethics, and productivity.  I’ve facilitated dozens of strategic planning summits to help communities set a vision and long-term goals.  My goals are to create a spirit of organizational innovation and improvement and a clearer long-term vision.  I’ll especially focus on guiding our economic development to create more high-paying jobs that support growing families.
