BOUNTIFUL – The American Red Cross Blood Services Region needs volunteers.
Volunteers are needed to assist with blood drives in the area, a press release said.
“To help us meet the constant demand for blood in Utah’s hospitals, the Red Cross needs some great, committed people who love to drive and would be willing to volunteer to pick up blood from blood drives and return it to the Salt Lake manufacturing center in Murray,” said Vickie Morgan, volunteer manager for Red Cross of Utah.
Blood drives can be held anywhere between Layton and Orem and some runs may require night driving. Drivers must have a valid Utah driver license and be able to lift up to 45 pounds, the release said.
In addition, Donor Ambassadors are needed to assist at mobile drives.
These volunteers greet donors, assist with registration, help manage donor flow and watch over donors after they donate, Morgan said.
Assignments to mobile blood drives are flexible and be adjusted to fit a volunteer’s schedule.
Telephone callers are also needed by the Red Cross. Phone team members call Utahns to invite them to donate at designated blood drives and remind them of their appointments, Morgan said.
