Rena Mae Martin, age 93, passed away on May 30, 2014 with her close family by her side. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend.

Rena was born August 27, 1920, in Whitewright, Texas to Tollie and Effie M. Young. She married Archie F. Martin of Electra Texas and together they lived a wonderful life until his death Sept 28, 1985. Rena Martin was a Charter member of the First Baptist Church of Bountiful where she held several church positions and thoroughly enjoyed being part of the church choir. She held the position of President of the American Baptist Women Ministries and participated in Church Women United. She enjoyed various trips to Green Lakes Wisconsin to participate in many American Baptist conferences. She was well known throughout the American Baptist Convention. She gave of her time to charity work such as the Literacy Action and was a member of the PEO. She loved her church and church family.

Later in life, Rena traveled the world accompanied by her close friends Mary Williams, Coralee Hartley, and others. We couldn’t wait to hear about each trip upon her return. Rena loved her house and spent countless hours tending her garden. She enjoyed visiting with her neighborhood friends. Rena deeply missed her family in Wichita Falls and Electra, Texas, especially her sister Mary Guthrie, and each year would travel back home to visit her sister and brothers and their families.

Rena is survived by her son, Robert H. (Debi) Martin, Bountiful; grandchildren, Brad Davis Martin and Karena Martin; sister-in-law, Coralee Hartly, Salt Lake City; brothers, Billy (Joy) Young, Sherman Texas and Howard (Judy) Young, Wichita Falls, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie; parents; sister, Mary Guthrie; and brother, Bud Young.

A very special thank you to the staff at Waikoloa assisted living who took care of her and enriched her life. We can’t thank you enough.

A celebration service of Rena’s life will be held June 6, 2014, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Bountiful First Baptist Church, 1922 S. Orchard Drive, Bountiful. Interment will be next to her beloved husband Archie at the Bountiful Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the First Baptist Church of Bountiful Utah or a charity of your choice.

Funeral services under the direction of Eric Sjoberg, McDougal Funeral Home.
