WOODS CROSS — Their last stop was in Cheyenne, Wyo., and their next one would be in Carson City, Nev., but in between, the C-SPAN Digital Bus stopped in Woods Cross, where students interested in politics and history got a chance to learn more about C-SPAN and the information it provides.

“We want to help the kids realize that the federal government has a role in what’s happening in their lives,” said Rachel Katz, one of two C-SPAN employees presenting information from the customized bus.

Noelle Viny, who teaches AP U.S. Government and World Civilizations, was instrumental in bringing the bus to Utah.

“The kids need to be concerned and educated,” said Viny. “They need to know the issues and be vested in what’s happening. It’s their future.”

While in the bus, students learned about a documentary competition sponsored by C-SPAN and about various media they can use to become more informed about the world around them, including Web offerings and mobile apps.

“With the mid-term elections coming up, many of these kids will be voting for the first time,” said Katz. “They can use us as a resource.”

“Students our age especially need to be more aware,” said Emily Kime, a student of the AP course.
