WOODS CROSS – Rivalry Week was the theme this week as Davis, Viewmont, Bountiful and Woods Cross faced off against each other in a number of sports.
It all culminates Thursday night when the Davis Darts wrestling team, which most recently placed 15th out of 68 teams at the Rumble tournament at Utah Valley University, face off against Viewmont in a Region 1 match for the first time in three years.
The Vikings wrestling team, that suffered tough losses to Syracuse and Weber last week but have placed well in tournaments, saved the best for last when it came to their schedule.
After Thursday night’s match, both Davis and Viewmont will be preparing to send as many wrestlers as possible to the 5A State Tournament.
Tuesday marked the first round of meetings for the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams of Bountiful, Davis, Viewmont and Woods Cross high schools.
The Darts and Vikings, reunited this season after Viewmont moved back into Region 1, faced each other in both boys’ and girls’ basketball Tuesday night, and both were very important early region games.
On the boys’ side, the Darts/Vikings game broke a first-place tie atop the region as Davis, Viewmont and Syracuse were all unbeaten before Tuesday night’s tip off.
The girls’ basketball game had a much different story attached to it. Viewmont, sitting at 2-2 as of press time, is currently tied for third in Region 1 along with Syracuse.
Davis, at 2-3 in Region 1, is fifth, needing a win in order to stay in the playoff hunt with only a few weeks remaining in the regular season.
Wednesday night saw the Bountiful Braves and Woods Cross Wildcats boys’ and girls’ basketball team square off against each other for the first time this season.
The Lady Braves, currently in first place in Region 6, have bounced back from its 2-5 start and are in first place in Region 6 through the halfway mark in the season.
Woods Cross, which is currently fourth in Region 6, have also done well since entering region play and are one game ahead of Clearfield for a playoff spot in the 4A bracket.
On the boys’ side, the State No. 2-ranked 11-1 Braves will go up against the 9-2 Wildcats, who are one game behind both the Braves and the Highland Rams for first place in Region 6.
Entering Wednesday night, both the Braves and Wildcats were the top two scoring teams in the region.
Thursday night’s wrestling match between Davis and Viewmont will start at 7 p.m.
