KAYSVILLE—Kaysville Junior High and Columbia Elementary were placed on lock out Tuesday morning after a man in his 20s was found dead of an apparent suicide on the school grounds.
“We got the call from the school about 8 a.m. this morning,” said Kaysville Police Public Information Officer Lt. Paul Thompson. “It seems no students had seen the individual or the incident so we’re grateful for that.”
Thompson said the schools were placed on lock out because they are close to the scene. “They were not in any danger, we just didn’t want to expose them to that,” he said. “In a lock out the doors are all locked and no one can come or go but the school operates as usual.”
“Both schools share a green space between them so that’s why both were put on lock out,” said Davis School District Director of Communication & Operations Chris Williams. “Unfortunately an individual in his 20s chose to commit suicide on the grounds at Kaysville Junior High. The principal went outside and made the call to the police. We wanted to make sure students didn’t see anything in the way of the police doing their investigation.”
Williams said a notice went out to all the parents and also to Davis High School that sits across the street. “We just wanted to let them know in case they saw a police presence.”
The lock out was lifted about 11:45 a.m.
