Artoosh Hasratian, who started the popular Mexican restaurant more than 30 years ago in West Bountiful, died  peacefully Monday, May 26 at his home, an obituary from Lindquist Mortuary said.

He was 71.

A viewing will be held Friday, 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Boulevard, and Saturday, 9:30-1030 a.m. at the Weber Heights Stake Center, 1401 Country Hills Drive.

Hasratian was “a man who came from humble beginnings, and spent his life sharing everything he earned,” the obituary said. “He traveled to America at a young age, and was committed to providing a life full of comfort, joy and happiness for his family.”

His dedication to the restaurant, its employees and customers was also noted.

“A loving entrepreneur and employer, he maintained the loyalty of many employees for 30-plus years. He understood the value of loyal customers,” the obituary said. “In family prayers, he would always express his gratitude for his amazing business associates, employees and his treasured customers. He was incredibly grateful for the tradition El Matador became in generations of families.”

He and his wife Rosemarie were parents of Cami, Hyke, Anton and Samantha and had 10 grandchildren.

Interment was in Lindquist’s Memorial Garden of the Wasatch in south Weber County.
