WEST POINT — Police say a man arrested Saturday night in connection with a shooting in West Point was booked into jail on a false name and with false identification.
Officers booked the man, now known to be Joshua Carl Henry, 26, of Sun Valley, Calif., following the shooting, which occurred at about 10 p.m.
Prosecutors are looking at filing aggravated assault charges and false information charges against a 26-year-old man, identified originally as Karl Myles.
Henry remains in the Davis County Jail on no bail following the incident which left a man in his early 30s with a chest wound. The man, whose identity is not being released, was placed in a medically induced coma Sunday evening.
Davis County Attorney Troy Rawlings said his office should be ready to file charges by Thursday afternoon. Henry is expected to appear in 2nd District Court on Friday.
Deputies were initially called to the home about. in the area of 400 North and 2000 West in West Point about 8:30 p.m. on reports of a loud party.
Shortly after 10 p.m., deputies were called back to the home on reports of shots being fired. A deputy noticed a man stumbling near the sidewalk at the home. The man had a gunshot wound to his upper chest, according to a sheriff’s office press release.
Officers from multiple agencies were called, and numerous people were taken in for questioning. Davis County Deputy Scott Harper said that Henry allegedly hopped some fences to the east to try to get away. Police were able to locate and detain him.
Davis County Sheriff’s Sgt. Susan Poulsen said that a handgun was found in the backyard of a nearby resident. It was later found to be stolen out of Ogden.
The victim remains in serious but stable condition.
