BOUNTIFUL –  Customers of Smith’s Food & Drug stores can donate to local food banks when checking out.

Through Dec. 28, checkers will ask customers if they want to add $1, $5 or $10 to their orders, a press release from Smith’s said.

All of the amount designated will be converted to Smith’s gift cards and given to the Bountiful Community Food Pantry and Family Connection Center Food Bank.

Last year, enough food was donated to create 7,900 more meals within communities served by Smith’s to feed the hungry, the release said.
