SYRACUSEUtah State Parks, in partnership with America’s State Parks, is sponsoring free, guided First Day Hike Programs on New Year’s Day.

One local park taking part in the new hike is Antelope Island in Syracuse, which will offer a two-mile hike on New Year’s Day.

Antelope Island will hold its hike at the Buffalo Point Loop. The hike is rated as a moderate one, with those in attendance expecting to reach an elevation gain of approximately 600 feet within a mile.

Those wanting to take part in the hike will need to meet at the Bridger Bay Campground, Site No. 8, at 1:30 p.m.

Due to the previous year’s attendance, an RSVP for the hike is being requested for those wanting to take part. More than 100 hikers and 16 dogs welcomed the New Year on the island in the last event.

To RSVP for the event, call Antelope Island at 801-721-9569.

Another park taking part in the New Year’s hiking event is Coral Pink Sand Dunes, located in Kane.

The two-mile, GPS-guided hike will be held on the History Hike Trail.

Dogs will be welcome to join on both hikes, but must be on leash at all times.

For the Coral Pink Sand Dunes hike, attendants will meet at 10 a.m. at the visitor center. The hike is free with $6 day-use fee.

Hikers for both events are being told to bring plenty of water, snacks, and weather-appropriate clothing.

To RSVP for the Coral Pink event, call 435-648-2800.
