Dear editor,
Chris Stewart’s recent West Bountiful event was fascinating. In spite of a large sound system, it was very difficult to hear him endorse Romney’s Energy ‘Plan’. Why? Because the event was just North of the refineries and just West of the railroad lines. The noise of the trains and I-15 С and the gentle wafting of refinery odors С plus the lack of any substance in Stewart’s remarks С made the event a disappointing waste of time. I doubt that Stewart or his staff caught the irony that Romney’s drill anywhere and everywhere plan, with little regulation or control, will exacerbate the noise, the odors, and the general poor air quality of South Davis County. Stewart seems to have no plans or ideas of his own. He endorses the Governor’s and Legislature’s crusade to take over Federal Lands С now a key part of the Romney ‘Plan’. He endorses the Romney Energy Plan, with little or no understanding or awareness of the many problems with such an 18th-Century approach. Stewart and Romney are willing to destroy the country С to decimate its quality of life С in exchange for a short-term total looting of local energy resources. There is essentially no consideration of renewable, sustainable sources. There is not even awareness that our growth-oriented, planet-consuming economy is in the midst of dramatic change. There is only a looking backwards. Stewart and Romney simply want to drag us back to the Gilded Age, when the poor and middle class were basically trashed, together with the planet and the nation. We can and must do much better. There’s more at
