BOUNTIFUL -- Smiling from ear to ear, Erldean Williams wheeled into the voting booth on Nov. 2 and did what she's done every election since she was 21 -- voted. For a brief moment, it looked like this 80-plus-year-old was not going to be able to vote this year. She and two other residents of Avalon Care Center in Bountiful went in too late to get absentee ballots.

But, Danene Stonerock, Recreation Director of Avalon, came to the rescue. One by one, she took Williams, Karen Doney, and Delores Miller to their polling places so they could exercise their right to vote.

While voting at South Davis Junior High, Williams not only fulfilled her civic duty, but also was excited to see and visit with several former neighbors. Miller also visited with friends at Bountiful High School as she voted.

Downy was reported to have a huge smile on her face before wheeling into the voting booth in Salt Lake near Westminster College. Because these women were in wheelchairs, they skipped to the front of the line and didn't have to wait.

With a little help, these three women were able to do something many of us take for granted: exercise their right to vote. They went home happy they had once again voiced their wishes at the ballot box.
