BOUNTIFUL — You don’t need people to tell a story.
Alicia Jensen and Nora Del Murdock, who are exhibiting at Bountiful’s Lamplight Gallery now through the end of October, use objects and nature to suggest the lives of characters who might live down the street or even in another world.
Alicia Jensen’s exhibit, titled “Les Chapeaux et Les Chaussures,” focuses on different collections of hats and shoes. The interest lies in the implications of the subtleties in each work. “Les Cerises” feels very young and female, the eclectic match of hat and shoes hinting at a free spirit. In “At Rest,” a pair of boots at the edge of a warm and welcoming porch tell the story of a soldier who’s finally come home.
Nora Del Murdock’s focus is on the wide expanse of nature С her only figures mere shadows against a colorful sweep of sky or long stretch of grass.
The most fascinating portion of her exhibit is a collection titled “Alien Landscapes.” A mix of oranges, reds and yellows that seem monochromatic until you look more closely, Murdock seems to pull mountains and clouds directly out of washes of color.
An opening reception for both exhibits will be held Oct. 5 from 6-9 p.m. at the gallery. The artists will be on hand to discuss their work.
