KAYSVILLE - If you know how to make strings sing, the Wasatch Chamber Music Society would like to talk to you.
The group is holding auditions for the 2014-2015 Davis Arts Chamber Music Series, the monthly concert series that highlights chamber music groups from around the state. Society members are looking for small groups of professional caliber musicians, such as trios or quartets, who specialize in classical music and are looking for more opportunities to play.
“We would love to hear from professional chamber groups who want another venue to play in,” said Laina Reynolds, a member of the Wasatch Chamber Music Society.
Even if you don’t have a group, Reynolds might have one waiting for you.
“I need musicians to play in my groups as well,” she said, specifying a need for string musicians. “I know they’re out there, but I don’t know how to find them.”
Auditions are scheduled from now until Aug. 9, and those who are interested need to contact Reynolds by e-mail at email@example.com or by calling 385-888-1795 to set up a specific audition date and time.
The chamber music series is co-sponsored by the Davis Arts Council and the Wasatch Chamber Music Society. Designed as a winter offering to complement the currently running Summer Nights with the Stars concert series, the concerts are held at the Kaysville Tabernacle.
“We wanted to provide music in a community where there aren’t any chamber concerts available,” Reynolds said.
The concerts are held on the second Friday of every month from September to May, and organizers are currently looking for musicians to perform during the September, November, January and April concerts.
“We tend to focus on strings, vocals and keyboards,” she said. “We’re expecting mostly smaller groups, but we’ve worked with chamber orchestras before.”
An experienced chamber musician herself, Reynolds said that there are advantages to performing with a chamber group.
“You have to be a skilled individual musician, but you get the camaraderie of a group to perform with,” she said.
