WOODS CROSS — One of the most popular holidays of the season is fast approaching.
Memorial Day, which will come this Monday, May 27, is one of the popular holidays for families young and old to venture off into the far reaches of Utah and beyond for a getaway weekend.
For many of those families, fishing is a top activity. They’re in luck.
Many local fisheries in Davis County have reported good fishing recently as more lakes and ponds are stocked with catfish and other species.
In Northern Utah, Mantua Reservoir, located east of Highway 89 in Mantua, is already reporting good fishing for largemouth bass.
Those interested in catching trout should head to East Canyon Reservoir, said Drew Cushing, a warm water sport fisheries coordinator for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.
Biologists have stocked a large number of trout in the reservoir, and the fish can be caught either by using a boat or staying inland.
Local fisheries such as Bountiful Lake and the Kaysville and Farmington Ponds are reporting good fishing as well. Others have reported stocking efforts are ongoing for trout and other fish.
Overall, however, fishing locally has done fairly well, according to division reports.
