LAYTON - If you’ve got music in your soul, they want to hear it.

The Davis Arts Council is seeking musical acts to perform as part of its 2014 Free Sunday Night Concert Series. Individual musicians or groups are welcome, but all acts must be appropriate for the whole family.

“We have kids running around, and a lot of the time this is their first exposure to live music,” said Kathy Latham, who organizes the series. “We have families who come every Sunday night. This is a tradition for them.”

The concert series, which has been going on for more than 30 years, actually served as the impetus for the construction of the Ed Kenley Amphitheater in Layton.

“Everything they do up there now is an outgrowth of the great support the Sunday concerts have received over the years,” said Latham.

The organizers keep things fresh by opening the series to several musical styles. Latham said that they’ve booked several ethnic music groups already this year, and instrumentalists are always popular. Previous performances have also included bluegrass, jazz and Broadway classics.

“We like to have a nice variety,” she said. “A little something for everyone.”

The one musical style not represented in the series is hard rock. Even if a group’s lyrics are clean enough for all ages, Latham said the type of music doesn’t fit in the atmosphere concert attendees are looking for.

Those interested in taking part in the series should submit a press kit that includes a music sample, a headshot or photo and introductory letter for the performer or group. All kits should be sent to Davis Arts Council; ATTN: Kathy S. Latham; 445 Wasatch Drive; Layton, UT 84041.

Any kits dropped by the office in person should also be marked ATTN: Kathy S. Latham. All entries must be received by March 28 at close of business in order to be considered.
