BOUNTIFUL -- The Bountiful Utah Swoosh 14-year-old team recently won the gold medal at the Utah summer games held last week in Cedar City. Of note is the fact that this division included 15-and-under boys and all the other teams who made the semifinals were composed mostly of 15-year-olds who played freshman basketball last year. The Swoosh team took third last year at the Summer games in the 13-and-under division. The two semifinal games between the top four finishers were both exciting and close fought games with the Bountiful Utah Swoosh coming back from 10 down in the third quarter to win by two points 39-37.

The other semifinal game was also won by two points in overtime. Swoosh played undefeated Delta. The finals were almost as close with the Nations team from Montezuma Creek giving the Bountiful Utah Swoosh a hard fought battle.

The Swoosh won 42-37, again with last-minute clutch free throws. Delta won the bronze in the consolation round, winning their game by 10 points.

Bountiful Utah Swoosh has played almost 60 games this season. Other successes this year include Bountiful City Comp league championship fall of 2004, eighth-grade division. They made the semifinals of the Murray league championships only to lose to the eventual winner of the tournament.

Bountiful Utah Swoosh has qualified for the National 2005 State Games of America held the end of July in Colorado Springs, Colo. They have also been invited to a tournament in Park City this summer featuring the top four teams from Utah and the top four teams from Canada.
