Police unable to find suspicious man with rifle
SYRACUSE — Syracuse High School was placed on locked down for about 15 minutes Thursday morning after a neighbor reported seeing a man with a rifle nearby
Several police agencies joined in the search for the man, who reportedly was walking with a rifle in a field near the school.
The incident occurred about 10 a.m., according to Lt. Heath Rogers.
Because of the proximity to the school, police thought it appropriate to lock down the school.
Law enforcers searched the field, neighborhood, school and the parking lot, but could find no evidence of a man with a rifle, Rogers said.
Police aren’t sure if what the neighbor saw was a hunter or someone carrying something shaped like a rifle, Rogers said.
