WEST VALLEY CITY — A Syracuse man died Sunday after his car rolled on Interstate 80 and rolled several times.

David Mecham, 52, had not been wearing a seatbelt, according to a report from the Utah Highway Patrol. His wife and passenger, Michelle Mecham, was wearing a seatbelt and was taken by ambulance to the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray with minor injuries.

The 7:30 a.m. crash happened on eastbound lanes near mile marker 105

Police are still investigating the crash but believe the driver fell asleep at the wheel, according to the report. They do not suspect that drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
