Syracuse second, Layton third in state 5A wrestling; Bountiful tenth in 4A

OREM — After the final wrestling match of the night was over, both Pleasant Grove in 5A and Maple Mountain in 4A were crowned as state wrestling champions in their respective classifications.

Outside of the state champions, local schools represented the county well. Five Davis County schools finished in the top 10. The Syracuse Titans took home the highest finish, placing second behind Pleasant Grove in 5A and scoring 192.5 points.

Layton finished third with a score of 176 points, and Viewmont placed sixth with 79 points. Davis finished ninth in 5A, scoring 62 points, and Bountiful placed 10th in 4A with 40.5 points.

The theme for the top five finishers in 5A was Region 1: Syracuse, Layton, Weber and Fremont all placed in the top five.

Outside the top 10, Clearfield finished 12th with 38 points, and Woods Cross placed 23rd with 13 points. Northridge finished 16th in 5A with 34.5 points. Box Elder (301.5 points), Mountain Crest (175.5 points), Mountain View (108 points) and Herriman (99 points) rounded out the top five in the 4A class.
