LAYTON – This year’s Taste of the Town event on Pioneer Day brought hundreds of gourmands to Layton Common Parks to sample culinary delights from 25 local restaurants.

The summer event was so popular, in fact, that several of the vendors ran out of food and had to leave for more. When they returned, they found long lines waiting.

Demmos Currit works at the Freeport Center and attended the event with his granddaughter.

“It’s really fun,” he said. “There’s a lot of people, and food. And it’s very reasonable, too.”

Currit is related to the owners of Settebello, and he watched with the child on his knee as the booth handed out not only a sweet Italian dessert but also fabulous caprese bites made of basil, a cherry tomato and fresh mozzarella.

Other eateries offered samples ranging from sausage macaroni and cheese to curries and tandoori chicken.

The food fest is one of the most popular events for the Davis Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors it, said Chamber President Jim Smith.
