BOUNTIFUL — With both the Christmas and New Year’s holiday now behind them, many local high schools that took the entire holiday break off are back in action.

The schedule will feature a host of teams from south Davis County on the basketball court, swimming pool, wrestling mat or other type of arena for the first time in at least one week. Davis, Viewmont, Bountiful and Woods Cross will be preparing for region play.

Wednesday night saw the return of Bountiful boys’ basketball and the Viewmont boys’ and girls’ basketball teams, with the Braves battling Olympus at home and the Vikings boys’ team facing Syracuse on the road.

The Lady Vikings, 8-2 on the season, faced off against Northridge.

All scores from those games are posted at davisclipper.com.

Davis and Woods Cross returned to the floor on Thursday. They took on Mountain Crest and Box Elder, respectively, on the road.

While it was a short rest for the Lady Darts, who last played on Dec. 29, Woods Cross’ game against the Bees will come after more than a two-week layoff.

The team last played on Dec. 18 against the Lady Darts.

Friday’s games will see the Viewmont and Davis boys’ basketball teams hit the floor in a nonregion game, and Woods Cross and Bountiful each hit their home floors. The Darts and Vikings will meet for the final time on the basketball court in nonregion play.

Bountiful will face Layton, and Woods Cross will face West on their respective home floors.

In other action, the Bountiful swim team will return to the North Davis Recreation Center to take on Region 6 foe Clearfield, and both Woods Cross and Viewmont will be swimming against Spanish Fork on Friday at the South Davis Recreation Center.

All four schools will also have one or more wrestling meets this week.

On Thursday, Davis faces Weber at home.

Bountiful and Viewmont will head to Sky View High School this Friday and Saturday for the annual Bobcat Brawl.

Woods Cross will also take part in a weekend tournament, but will also head south to be a part of the Bruin Classic being held at Mountain View High School.

The Utah High School Hockey season will also continue after a long layoff. Davis, DCI and Viewmont will hit the ice on Wednesday, Jan. 9.

Each team has three more games on the schedule before the playoffs begin.

Davis will face off against Juan Diego and DCI will face Riverton at the South Davis Recreation Center in back-to-back games that night.

The Vikings will travel to Park City to take on the Miners that night at the Ice Arena, which is located in Park City.
