CENTERVILLE — The 16-year-old woman critically injured in an accident on I-15 Thursday afternoon has died.
The teen was standing outside her vehicle following a multi-car crash on I-15 just before 1 p.m.
The three-car crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-15 at Parrish Lane when the driver of one vehicle swerved to avoid hitting a piece of metal debris in the road, said Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Johnson. That debris was a metal ramp that apparently fell from a trailer.
All three cars pulled to the shoulder of the road and the drivers were standing next to their cars when a fourth vehicle hit the debris and crashed into the drivers, Johnson said.
The teen was taken to the hospital by air ambulance. She died Thursday evening of her injuries, according to Utah Public Safety Spokesman Dwayne Baird. Her name was not released.
The accident is still under investigation, and authorities are looking for the driver of the vehicle from which the ramp apparently fell.
The teen's name was not released.
