The Clipper needs to delve deeper into election coverage

Dear Editor:

One reason I subscribe to the Clipper is to be informed about local government. I was disappointed in the Clipper's "Election Day Preview” section this year. I could have accessed the candidates' websites and gotten the same information about their backgrounds. I could have guessed without reading that every candidate for city council and mayor in Davis County supports recreation, arts, education and business development. It was no surprise that all value input from citizens and want to keep taxes low.

КI know there are many candidates running for office throughout theКcounty, but I believe it is a newspaper's responsibility to interview each candidate and ask specific questions about their plans for the city such as: “Exactly how will you encourage business development in your city?” “What kinds of businesses do you hope to attract?” and “What city needs are you willing to bond for?”

КWithout being able to compare candidates' answers to the same questions, voters are leftК to make decisions based on the vague generalities candidates post about themselves. The Clipper needs to ask tough questions that will help voters make informed choices.

KAnn,

I completely agree with you. Since Rebecca Palmer has left the Clipper, I have noticed a HUGE decline in current events...ESPECIALLY this year's elections. Shame on the Clipper for not having more current reporting and discontinuing with a reporter who was clearly "on the ball".. I don't know her personally, but have been very impressed with her tenacity in reporting. We will all find out who wins the elections before this paper prints the information for us!
