WOODS CROSS — Four southern Davis County High School softball teams claimed region titles last week. Bountiful, Viewmont and Davis will head to the 4A and 5A state tournament with top seedings.
Woods Cross will also make the 4A bracket, having already claimed the No. 4 spot, for which they were tied prior to Tuesday’s game.
Lady Darts claim Region 1 crown with win
The Davis Lady Darts softball team won the Region 1 title outright last week, claiming wins over Weber (3-2) and Fremont (12-2.)
The win over Fremont was the team’s fifth in a row overall and sixth in its last seven games.
Against Fremont, Davis scored six runs in the first two innings and Cheyenne Norton picked up the win inside the circle by allowing two runs on seven hits.
Breezy Roth, Cali Reynolds and Sydney Warren hit doubles for Davis as part of a 14-hit attack.
Lady Vikings tough out 14-11 win, claim Region 2
Following a 14-4 win over Kearns last Tuesday, the Lady Vikings played a tough, high-scoring game against Taylorsville last Thursday.
The game ended with Viewmont winning 14-11, and the win helped the team claim the Region 2 crown outright.
The Lady Vikings were powered by Caitlyn Larsen, who hit two of Viewmont’s five home runs in the game. Amanda Varley, Kellie Williams and Riley Tyteca each homered for the Lady Vikings as well.
Eliza Thornley got the win inside the circle.
Lady Braves win 13th-straight Region 6 crown
The Bountiful Lady Braves softball team claimed the Region 6 crown for themselves Friday after trampling Highland 20-2 last Friday. The win gave the Lady Braves the Region 6 crown, and kept Bountiful’s winning streak alive at 13 games.
Bountiful scored 11 of its 20 runs in the first inning alone, and kept adding to its lead in the second, third and fourth innings before finally ending the game after the fourth.
Belle Stoddard picked up her 19th win of the season, and accounted for all of the team’s wins.
Woods Cross notches third-straight region win
The Woods Cross softball team picked up its third straight Region 6 win after beating Clearfield 10-1 last Thursday, and will at worst be the No. 4 seed heading into the state 4A softball tournament next week.
Manni Johnson helped power the Woods Cross offense by knocking a triple and a home run as part of a 10-hit effort for the Lady Wildcats. Breanna Price, Daphne Robinson and Madison Sorenson each hit doubles for Woods Cross, and Hanalee Robinson got the win inside the circle for the Wildcats.
