FARMINGTON - The trial for a woman accused of stabbing her former boyfriend will proceed as scheduled.

A trial date of March 31 was set in October for Shannon Sander. On Tuesday, her attorney Mark Arrington confirmed in 2nd District Court that the defense is ready to proceed.

Sander, 45, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Michael Dunn, who died in Feb. 21, 2012, after Sander allegedly stabbed him in the chest.

Several police officers testified at Sander’s preliminary hearing that the stabbing occurred after the defendant and Dunn had been drinking most of the day.

She allegedly told police Dunn had tried to grope and kiss her throughout the day. Police say she told them they had dated in the past, but that Dunn’s advances were unwelcome.

Arrington claims Sander acted in self-defense.
