Alleged sex abuser Stephen Niedzwiecki has been arraigned, posted bail and been released from custody, according to the Davis County Sheriff’s Office.
Niedzwiecki had been charged with 11 counts related to his alleged sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student. They include forcible se abuse, object rape, forcible sodomy and attempted rape.
Niedzwiecki had been working as a girl’s basketball coach and science teacher at Jefferson Academy in Kaysville when he met the teen. At the time of his arrest on Saturday, Dec. 1, he was teaching at Quest Academy, a charter school in West Haven.

Illegal sex between minors and adults is more common than many may realize.
According to a study by the national research nonprofit Child Trends, more than one in four babies born to mothers between the ages of 15 and 17 was fathered by someone who was five or more years older than the mother.
Figures aren’t available for illegal teen sex with adults in Davis County, but many news stories in recent years prove that the problem does exist here.
Jeremy Flygare, 33, was a theater teacher at Northridge High School in Layton. About a year ago, he was sentenced to serve time in the Utah State Prison for having sex with a 17-year-old student.
In 2010, another theater teacher, this time at the Legacy Preparatory Academy charter school, was accused of having sex with a 14-year-old student.
Also that year, a former Marine recruiter from Centerville met a 15-year-old student at her school and allegedly had a sexual relationship with her. He was 27.
Beginning in 2009, 41-year-old Valynne Bowers of Bountiful Junior High School had illegal sex with a 14-year-old student. Another teacher from the school, 46-year-old Linda Nef, was also found to have had sex with the boy. With her, it started when he was 13 years old.
Among all teens, about 13 percent of females and 5 percent of males first have sex in a statutory rape situation, according to Child Trends.
That organization also found that a significant proportion of young male teens Р not only of young female teens Р have engaged in a first sexual relationship with an older individual of the opposite sex.
In Utah, it is illegal for anyone to have sex with a 14- or 15-year-old minor if that person in three or more years older than the teen. Penalties are enhanced for an age gaps of four-to six years and seven years or more.
The allowed age gap for sex with teens who are 16 or 17 years is 10 years.
