BOUNTIFUL - Christmas felt a little less merry for the Lord family over the holiday after vandals destroyed a large inflatable Santa Claus in their yard.
David and Vickie Lord say someone hopped their fence at 415 North 200 West sometime between 8 and 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. They didn't really notice what had happened until the next day.
The inflatable Santa once stood more than 15 feet high, and was part of an annual tradition at the Lord home, which was built by Vickie's ancestors back in 1852.
The Lords spend a lot of time decorating their yard every Christmas season, spending hundreds of dollars to make the season a little brighter for folks passing by their home along a busy intersection.
The Santa cost them more than $250, and couldn't be repaired after the vandals ripped a 3-4 foot long gash in the fabric.
All that was left Sunday morning was a crumpled-up pile of red and white fabric, along with two sets of footprints leading from the fence to the display.
Luckily, the vandals left most of the other decorations alone, which include hundreds of lights and other fixtures.
The Lords called police, who filed a report - but did not offer the family much hope in bringing the vandals to justice.
The Lords asked anyone who might know what happened to call police.
