MIDVALE – The Viewmont Vikings girls’ soccer team advanced to Tuesday’s semi-final round against Lone Peak after beating Hillcrest 3-2 in overtime last Thursday.
Davis wasn’t so fortunate, as a 4-0 loss to Brighton ended the Lady Darts’ run to the finals this season.
Bountiful also lost last week, losing to Bonneville in a 1-0 stunner last Tuesday.
Viewmont advanced to semi-finals, beat Hillcrest 3-2 in overtime
The defending 5A state champion Vikings kept their playoff hopes alive last week, advancing to Tuesday’s semi-final match after downing Hillcrest 3-2 last Thursday.
The Vikings scored a single goal in each half, matching Hillcrest’s pair of goals and stretching the game into an overtime period.
Viewmont knocked in the game-winner in the first overtime.
Abbie Flandro, Jana Wall and Madison Mitamura each scored a goal for the Vikings.
Davis shutout by Brighton, 4-0
A chance to advance to the 5A semi-finals went up in smoke for the Lady Darts soccer team, who suffered a 4-0 loss at the hands of Brighton.
Brighton’s Nadia Gomes kicked in a pair of goals for the Bengals, who advanced to Tuesday’s semi-finals for the first time since 2010.
The Darts will not be in the semi-finals of the 5A bracket for the first time in five seasons. Davis’ last loss in the quarterfinals was to Brighton back in 2008.
Lady Braves shocked by Bonneville in first round
The Bountiful girls’ soccer team closed out a Region 6 championship with a 2-0 win over Woods Cross to end the regular season.
One goal was enough to bring down all their success, however, as the Lakers of Bonneville shocked the Bountiful home crowd by claiming a 1-0 victory over the Lady Braves.
Bonneville’s only goal was scored in the first half, as the Lakers’ defense held its own against the 4A finalists from last season.
Despite numerous scoring chances, the Lady Braves still finished without a goal in the game. It was the first time Bountiful was shut out in a match since losing to Highland 1-0 on Sept. 17.

The Lady Vikings were the only team left in the 5A playoffs as of press time. A score from that game will be available on the Clipper’s website.
The 4A and 5A finals will be held Friday, Oct. 25 at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy.
The 5A finals will kick off at 7 p.m.
