Vikings win a pair to start boys’ soccer season, Davis downed

BOUNTIFUL – The Viewmont Vikings boys’ soccer team won both its games last week to kick off the 2014 season.

Their wins over Woods Cross and Bountiful were by a combined 8-1 score.

Preceding its loss to Viewmont last Friday, the Braves also lost their opening match to Wasatch, 2-1.

Woods Cross, after losing to Viewmont to open its season, also lost to Copper Hills last Friday, 3-1.

Davis only played one game last week, losing to Mountain Crest 1-0.

Vikings beat Wildcats 7-1, Bountiful 1-0

The Viewmont Vikings opened their boys’ soccer season by outscoring their first two opponents 8-1.

In last Wednesday’s season opener against Woods Cross, Georgie Orozco, Landen Hansen and Mike Johnson each scored two goals in the 7-1 victory.

Bryan Correa scored a goal as well for the Vikings, and Lucas Cawley finished with six assists in the win.

Luke Madsen scored the Wildcats’ only goal in the loss.

Viewmont’s game against Bountiful Friday ended in a 1-0 victory. The Vikings win saw Orozco score his third goal of the season.

Tyler Trump picked up his first shutout of the season at the net.

Braves open the season with a loss to Wasatch, 2-1

Before Bountiful travelled to Viewmont last Friday, the Braves played a match at home against Wasatch High School to start its 4A state title defense.

Bountiful lost 2-1 on goals by Colton Mahoney and Isaac Smedley of the Wasps.

Bountiful’s Nate Smith scored the only goal in the match for the Braves.

Wildcats fall to 0-2 after loss to Copper Hills, 3-1

Playing in front of its home crowd for the second match in a row, the Woods Cross Wildcats lost to Copper Hills 3-1 on a pair of goals by Michael Brady and a solo goal from Jaden Thomas for the Grizzlies.

Luke Madsen scored Woods Cross’s lone goal in the second half.

Davis shut out by Mountain Crest to open the season

The Davis Darts went on the road to open its boys’ soccer season, and lost at the hands of Mountain Crest 1-0 on a penalty kick.

Hayden Anderson picked up a shutout at the net for Mountain Crest.

Games this week

Davis will travel to Hillcrest Thursday afternoon. It will be the second of a five-game road series to start the season for the Darts.

The Darts are also scheduled to play West Friday.

Viewmont will travel to Juan Diego Catholic High School Friday at 6 p.m.

Region 6 play will continue this week for Woods Cross and Bountiful on Friday. Bountiful will host Highland and Woods Cross will travel to Kearns.

Both games will kick off at 3:30 p.m.
