WOODS CROSS – The high school football season wrapped up the regular season portion of its schedule last week.
The Vikings, who were winless in region play after last week’s season finale, lost their final game of the season Thursday night against Clearfield, 28-7.
Woods Cross, Bountiful and Davis all follow the Viking recap.
Viewmont loses lead, game to Clearfield
The Viewmont Vikings held onto a 7-0 first quarter lead against the Clearfield Falcons last Thursday for as long as they could.
However, Clearfield answered back by scoring 28 points in a 28-7 win.
Viewmont’s only touchdown came in the first quarter after Cole Huish found Jared Barnum for a 74-yard touchdown pass.
The Vikings held the lead through the first quarter, and Clearfield tied the game at 7-7 after Kelly Thorpe caught a 36-yard pass from Ricky Martinez for a touchdown.
Thorpe broke the tie in the third quarter by scoring two more touchdowns, giving the Falcons the lead for good.
Both of his touchdowns came on running plays: a two-yard touchdown early in the third quarter and a 10-yard run later.
Jacques Carter ran for another touchdown before the final whistle.
The Vikings finish the season 1-9 overall.
Bountiful loses lead, game to Rams, fall to No. 4 seed
The Bountiful Braves football team had an opportunity to finish the season as the No. 3 team from Region 6 heading into the 4A State playoffs.
But a third quarter, three-point lead turned into a seven point loss as the Rams scored 10 points in the closing frame to win, 17-10.
Braves’ kicker Haltom Nels booted a 30-yard field goal in the second quarter to trim the halftime deficit to four points, and Tanner Redding caught a touchdown pass in the third quarter for the lead.
Highland’s Mike Kerr kicked a field goal to tie the game, and Adam Webber returned a blocked kick for a touchdown, breaking the tie.
Bountiful finished the regular season at 5-5 overall. They were 3-3 in Region 6.
Darts finish regular season 9-0, down Weber 29-17
In front of their home crowd with a region title on the line, the Davis Darts football team ended the regular season with a perfect record by beating the Weber Warriors 29-17.
The win also gave them the Region 1 crown, and home field in the first two rounds of the 5A playoffs.
Colton Chronister accounted for two touchdowns Friday night, scoring on a seven-yard run and throwing an eight-yard touchdown pass to Christian Smith.
Chronister finished with 148 yards passing. Parker Rose ran for 88 yards and a touchdown as well.
Davis won the Region 1 title with a 6-0 record.
Woods Cross crushes Cyprus, 39-13
The Wildcats ended the regular season with a six-game winning streak after taking down the Cyprus Pirates 39-13 Friday night.
In the win, quarterback Clay Kidman threw for 132 yards and four touchdowns to four different receivers. Braxton Gunther, who had a touchdown reception, also returned an interception 25 yards for a defensive touchdown.
Woods Cross finished the regular season at 9-1 overall, losing only to East.
Games this week
Friday night will be the first round of the 4A and 5A State football playoffs.
Davis will host Pleasant Grove at 5 p.m., and Woods Cross will host Box Elder at 3 p.m.
Bountiful will travel to Logan for the second time this season to face the undefeated Grizzlies at 6 p.m.
