The action, taken on Sept. 7, came after council members Jeff Tingey and Bonnie Sorenson suggested they move the clean-up up a week to Oct. 11-16 because of the hunt. But city administrator Wendell Wild reported the public works department will have a staff problem during the earlier time frame.
"We're down by one employee," Wild explained, "and another will be away on a planned leave."
Meanwhile, council member Roy Johnson argued that the deer hunt "isn't that big a deal any more." And DeVan Pack said that, though he agreed with Tingey and Sorenson "the week before would be better," the staffing problem had to be considered.
The debate ended with council members deciding to go along with Oct. 18-23 recommendation. The clean-up will be staged as in the past with bins set up in the city park. Those dropping by will need to follow traditional rules regarding the type and size of waste accepted.
