WEST POINT — West Point Junior High School’s wrestlers can call themselves district champions.
After winning the Davis District North End wrestling tournament, held at Legacy Junior High on March 26, the Warriors followed that performance by placing first in the Davis District Championship, held at Viewmont High School, just three days later.
The team’s score of 132 points was only .5 points ahead of second-place South Davis. Central Davis placed third and scored 99 points for the tournament, and Centerville placed fourth with 98 points.
Fairfield finished fifth, scoring 92.5 points for the tournament.
Helping the Warriors win the district title was Jed Tulane, who won an individual championship in the 150-pound weight class. Tulane was forced to wrestle a teammate in the finals, Dagan Kramer, and won the match to cap off a 14-0 season individually.
Overall, the Warriors had 13 wrestlers in the district championship, and nine of them placed in the top four.
Among them were a pair of wrestlers who finished second and third in the 110-pound class. Colton Brower, who lost to Bronc Marriott of Millcreek in the championship match, finished second. Teammate Dallin Kirkman won his third-place match against Kaysville’s Mason Arnold to claim third for West point in that weight class.
Kelby Kendall also had a chance to be crowned an individual champion in the 125-pound championship match, but lost to Shawn Kelley of Legacy and finished in second place.
Other West Point wrestlers that placed in the top four were Garrett Kincaid (fourth, 85 pounds), Colton Eden (third, 92 pounds), Gabe Adams (fourth, 98 pounds), and Tyler Stark (third, 115 pounds).
Individual champions from each weight class were Dalton Stutzman of Central Davis (78 pounds), Benson Blackburn of Centerville (85 pounds), Tanner Benedict of Central Davis (92 pounds), Chris Stubbs of Centerville (98 pounds), Ben Harden of South Davis (104 pounds), Baylor Green of Fairfield (115 pounds), Daxton Arnold of North Davis (120 pounds), Wyatt Knowlton of Fairfield (132 pounds), Curtis Smith of Farmington (140 pounds), Ian Peterson of Farmington (162 pounds), Connor Taylor of Kaysville (175 pounds), Josh Tinajero of Sunset (195 pounds) and Bryan Hamer of North Davis (285 pounds). Twelve of the champions finished the season undefeated.
