The weather is cooling and the leaves have changed to brilliant hues of red, orange and auburn. But Davis County and the surrounding area remains an exciting place to learn, be entertained and do family activities, whether you’re making and sampling chili or hearing jazz music. USU Botanical Center Farmers Market, 875 S. 50 West, Kaysville, 5-8 p.m.

  •  Oct. 4: Chili Cook Off. Sample different chili recipes.  Register to enter your favorite recipe by contacting Robyn Knight at robyn.knight@usu.edu.
  • WSU’s Department of Performing Arts presents the WSU Jazz Ensemble, 7:30 p.m., Val A. Browning Center Allred Theater, $7/$6, weberstatetickets.com. or 801-626-7000. (Well-behaved children are welcome.)
  • Bountiful farmers' market from 3 to 8 p.m. 100 S. 100 East
  • The Davis County Republican Women hosts Meet The School Board Candidates For Davis School Boart #1. There will be no political party discussion at these meetings, meet at Bountiful City Library, 725 South Main Street, on Thursday, at 7 p.m.

Coming up this weekend is an alumni tailgate party at WSU, fall festivals, more chances to show off your chili culinary skills and Death by Chocolate” Mystery Theater and Dinner at Bountiful Community Church and more. Watch this space for details.
