WOODS CROSS — Ashlyn Farnes kicked in the golden goal for Woods Cross in extra time, and the Wildcats advanced to the quarterfinals of the 4A girls’ soccer playoffs with a win over Hillcrest 2-1 Tuesday afternoon.

Playing on the road, the Wildcats and the Huskies played to a 1-1 tie after Ashlyn Farnes of Woods Cross and Hannah Sutherland of Hillcrest traded second half goals.

In the first overtime, Kyra Fawcett found the back of the net to lift the Wildcats into Thursday’s quarterfinal round.

Woods Cross has advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2009. That year the Wildcats lost 2-0 to Springville.

The Wildcats’ next game will be against Box Elder at home Thursday at 4 p.m. A win for Woods Cross will see the Wildcats in the semi-finals on Tuesday, Oct. 16 against either Bonneville or Clearfield.
