1923-2012

Early in the morning on November 2, Bill Barlow, age 89, passed away, only three months after his eternal companion and sweetheart, Lou Jean. He was a loving and kind husband, father, and grandfather to all and enjoyed sharing his playful sense of humor.

Dad was born on September 26, 1923 to Wilford Walter and Olive Layton Barlow in Bountiful, the youngest of 5 sons. He graduated from Davis High School, joined the Navy and served during WWII. He married Alice Lou Jean Richter, May 4, 1943 in the Salt Lake Temple. Bill and Jean were blessed with 8 children. His life demonstrated that Faith and Family were his highest priorities.

Bill served faithfully in many priesthood leadership callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bill and Jean served three missions, the first to Guam Micronesia where they immersed themselves in the Lord's work and loved the people. They also served in Church visitor centers in St. George as well as a mission in Salt Lake.

Throughout his life Bill started and owned several successful businesses. His Navy experience taught him a love for electronics. He also found great satisfaction in woodworking and crafted tables, cradles and cabinets. He enjoyed new cars, starting with his first at the age of 16, a Ford Model A.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lou Jean, brothers, an infant daughter, Judith, and a son William. He is survived by: daughters; Jeanne (Paul) Nelson, Susan (David) Beesley, Janet (Matt) Asmus; sons, Calvin (Teresa), Robert (Lori), Brent (Audrey); daughter-in-law, Merlene; foster Indian daughter, Brenda Olguin; 39 grandchildren and 70 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Bountiful Ninth Ward, 585 East Center Street, where friends and family may visit Friday evening, November 9, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday morning 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
