BOUNTIFUL -- Fairy tale characters from a youth theater production came together in the wacky play "Babes in Toyland," held last weekend. The play was presented by the Farmington City Arts Council.

During the play cards were held up to urge audience members to boo, hiss, sigh, swoon, clap, cheer, etc. on cue. The community came out to support more than 60 youth in the production.

Babes in Toyland is about a villain, Barnaby, who falls in love with sweet Mistress Mary Quite Contrary. Since he can't buy her love, he tries to force her to marry him by threatening to foreclose on her mother, the poor Widow Piper.

Meanwhile Mary has her heart set on marrying Barnaby's nephew George. Out of jealously Barnaby hires two bumbling ruffians to do away with George, but George returns to Mother Goose Land amidst much rejoicing.

Mary journeys to the mysterious Toyland through the dangerous Spider Forest. Barnaby hasn't given up, and he herds the whole gang of Mother Goose Land characters to Toyland in pursuit of Mary.

The Master Toymaker and his quirky assistants Grumio and Marmaduke are characters in the play who help to unfold the mystery of Toyland. The musical tale is told through the worlds of Mother Goose Land and Toyland

The next event will be Farmington's Second Annual Christmas Carol Sing-along. Free hot chocolate and donuts will be given out at the event. Because of limited seating, free tickets will be given out starting Nov. 27. For more information call 451-2383 ext. 4.
