DAVIS COUNTY — The Davis Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and professional staff members emerged from their annual planning meeting last fall with an ambitious goal: the Chamber would be the most essential resource to build business in Davis County, regardless of the state of the economy.

They selected “Essential to Your Success” as their motto and they have been aggressively pursuing it ever since. The Northern Utah Business and Economic Summit (NUBES) is the latest building block in the fulfillment of that goal.

This educational forum will be held in conjunction with the Davis Office of Economic Development on May 7 at the Davis Campus of Weber State University in Layton.

The Davis Chamber has presented NUBES for several years, but the 2009 edition has a particular drive and urgency about it.

“Ready, Aim, Thrive” is the theme of the summit. It is designed to give attendees valuable and specific information on how their business can not only survive, but actually thrive during an economic downturn. There will also be unsurpassed opportunity to interact with community leaders and to network with other business professionals from the region.

The program includes feature presentations from well-known business advocate Fred Ball, GOED director Jason Parry, and economist Kelly Matthews.

There will also be eight dynamic breakout sessions on topics such as: legislative and economic outlook, small business success in small time, commercial lenders, economic development programs, marketing your business, Utah Procurement Assistance Program, and the economic stimulus package.

An additional 12 Davis County organizations will participate in the Rapid Fire presentation segment of the program.

“We have designed the 2009 program to provide valuable, bottom-line building information that can strengthen Davis County businesses today and in the future.”

The Summit is open to anyone interested in the economic development of Davis County. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. and continues through 3 p.m.

An optional golf activity and a SEED Utah meeting follow the event. The cost of this full day seminar will be $70 each or two for $120 for Chamber Members. Non Chamber Members will be $90 each or two for $140.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for organizations interested in supporting the Northern Utah Business and Economic Summit.

Please contact the Davis Chamber of Commerce at 801-593-2200 or online at daviscc@davischamberofcommerce.com for additional information and to RSVP for this event.
