DAVIS COUNTY — The New York Times recently reported that employee health care costs continue to rank among the highest of small business concerns.
Of more than 3,500 small business owners surveyed nationwide by the National Federation of Small Business, 56 percent cited health care as their biggest challenge in employee recruitment and retention.
Northern Utah small businesses are no exception. That is why the Davis Chamber is pleased to announce the 1st Quarterly Luncheon of 2009 – Your Health Is Our Business.
Please join the CEO’s of Davis Hospital and Medical Center, Lakeview Hospital, and McKay–Dee Hospital Center for a timely and vital conversation about local health care issues and how they impact your business.
Join Mike Jensen, Rand Kerr, and Tim Pehrson for a panel discussion at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 19 at the Canterbury Reception Center, 197 East 500 South, Bountiful.
You won’t want to miss this luncheon if you have concerns about health care options, policies, and pricing for yourself or your employees. Call the Chamber 801-593-2200 to RSVP.
Having a ‘Can-do’ attitude
DAVIS COUNTY — The Davis Chamber of Commerce has always had a “Can-Do” attitude…even in the midst of the current economic concerns.
But now the Chamber has made its positive outlook a matter of public record.
The Davis Chamber Executive Committee last week gave approval for the Chamber to formally join economically minded organizations throughout the state in forming the Can-Do Coalition.
The primary goal of the Can-Do Coalition is to turn the economy around in Utah by the end of this year. Coalition members will accomplish this through investment in jobs, bold economic development initiatives, sound management principles, and (something many organization find it hard to embrace even now) old-fashion sacrifice.
Utah entered the current economic situation in an enviable position and the Can-Do Coalition intends to see that Utah leads the nation in achieving a full recovery.
The Coalition will actively pursue five main policies to accomplish its goals: 1) Seek on-going transportation funding to pay for crucial highway projects in Utah. 2) Support of a highly-leveraged state bond to fund higher education facilities that have significant private sector funding matches and are ready to begin construction in the next six months. 3) Advocate avoiding state spending cuts that jeopardize federal stimulus monies or other matching federal funds.
While prudent budget reductions are necessary, the coalition does not support cuts that will imperil public and higher education. 4) Support innovative programs to stimulate home sales and minimize foreclosures. 5) Support funding for USTAR to promote research and commercialize promising ideas that not only provide high return on investment but sustain long-term job growth.
The Davis Chamber will work with its 850 members and with the entire Davis County business community to take a sensible yet aggressive lead in putting economic growth back on track in northern Utah and throughout the state.
