Davis secured the Region 2 title and Farmington won its first Region 5 title while Viewmont, Bountiful and Woods Cross qualified for the 5A state championship. Weather permitting this week, both the 6A and 5A state tournaments were slated to begin on Wednesday (results in next week’s Clipper).

Davis

Davis finished second to Weber at the Region 2 tournament Sept. 24-25, but won the region championship by points. At the tournament, the Darts were led by Preston Wallace with scores of 75 and 73. Jack Sargent battled through a hand injury with “a nice tournament,” according to head coach Ben Horne, for rounds of 75 and 76.

“We didn’t play real well, but we had a two-stroke lead going into day two,” Horne said. “We struggled on day two.”

Bountiful

Bountiful placed third at the Region 5 tournament at Hubbard Sept. 24 with a score of 315. Ben Shaw and Carson Lewis tied for sixth with scores of 76. Lewis shot a hole-in-one on the 17th hole.

Shaw and Peyton Hale were recognized on the All-Region team.

The 5A state tournament is scheduled for Oct. 3-4 at Glen Eagle.

Viewmont

Viewmont shot a team score of 304 to take second place in Region 5 at Hubbard Golf Course Sept. 24. Brandon Robison tied for medalist honors with Farmington’s Conner Knowles. Both players shot a 71. Brandon Oviatt tied for fourth place with a round of 73.

Robison was named Region 5 medalist while Braxton Summers was also named to the All-Region team.

Woods Cross

Woods Cross won the battle – with Box Elder – for fourth place in Region 5 and a spot in the tournament after the region championship Sept. 24 at Hubbard. The Wildcats tied with the Bees – at 328 – for the fourth spot at the tournament, but the rounds of Woods Cross’ Cameron Hale, Schafer Iverson and Ben Wright,, who all shot 84s, were critical as an 84 was counted for the fifth place score. Box Elder’s fifth-place golfer shot an 87, giving the Wildcats the final Region 5 slot for state.

Karson Bodily tied for ninth place with a 77 to lead the Wildcats at region.

Farmington

In its first year, Farmington won the Region 5 championship – by 12 strokes over Viewmont – at Hubbard Golf Course Sept. 24.

The Phoenix squad was led by a 1-under-par from Conner Knowles, tying him for first place at region with Viewmont’s Brandon Robison, with Braxton Watts (third place, 72), Willard Richards (tied for fourth, 73), Ben Seely (tied for sixth, 76) and Jarom Jorgensen (tied for ninth, 77) rounding out Farmington’s top-ten finishes.

“We have had a historic year,” head coach Eric Bumstead said. “Our players have all been able to contribute. We don’t rely on one or two players to do good each week. We have a deep team where different players can score for us.”

Watts, Seely, Richards, Jorgensen, Knowles and Parker Thompson were named to the All-Region team.

“I think at state we will be very competitive since many of our players can go low,” Bumstead said.
