Girls basketball teams start region play

Bountiful and Woods Cross began region play, with Woods Cross picking up a win, while Davis picked up its first region win. Viewmont starts Region 5 action Jan. 17 against Bountiful.


Davis defeated Syracuse 55-52 on Jan. 9, coming back from five points down after the first quarter and nine at halftime with a 42-point second half effort – while the Titans scored 28.

“It was great to get a region win. We really needed this one,” head coach Anne Jones said. “Our players really fought hard and played tough. I’m so proud of how they came from behind and hit some big free throws to secure the win.”

Against Northridge on Jan. 12, the Darts lost 50-49. Davis is now 1-4 in region and 7-7 overall.


Bountiful lost to Woods Cross 67-30 on Jan. 11. The Braves were down 20-12 after the first quarter and 46-18 at halftime and scored just 12 points the rest of the way in the loss.

Waverly Bowman had 10 points and four rebounds to lead the Braves.

Bountiful is 0-1 in region and 2-11 overall so far this season.


In a rematch of last year’s state championship game on Jan. 8 between Viewmont and American Fork, the Vikings won this time by a score of 61-35.

Viewmont came out strong and was up by 13 points at halftime. The Vikings continued to pour it on in the third quarter – with a 22-point effort – to cruise to the large win.

Eight players scored, ,ed by Mercedes Staples with 22 points. Viewmont is 10-1 on the season prior to Region 5 play.

Woods Cross

Woods Cross defeated Bountiful 67-30 on Jan. 11. The Wildcats came out strong, scoring 46 points in the first half in the win.

Sara Noel led four scorers in double figures with 21 points while Olivia Barton and Alle McKenna added 14 and Paige McKenna 11.

Woods Cross is 1-0 in Region 5 and 10-4 overall. record.
