LAYTON—Layton and Farmington teams won titles at the Davis County Cross Country Championships held Sept. 13 in Layton City Park.
The Lancers finished first in the varsity girls race with 48 points, edging Bountiful by four points in the lowest-scorer competition. Farmington was third at 74, followed by Davis at 90, Woods Cross at 110, Northridge at 170 and Syracuse at 172. Viewmont did not have a full team entered in the varsity race.
In boys’ competition, it was Farmington bringing home the trophy with a score of 45 points. Northridge was second at 65, followed by Syracuse (94), Davis (114), Layton (124), Bountiful (133), Woods Cross (135), Clearfield (189) and Viewmont (264).
Individually, it was Farmington sophomore Elisabeth Ferrell who crossed the finish line in 16:37.18, earning a 10-second victory over Bountiful’s Laurie Murphy, who was second at 16:47.25. Layton’s top finisher was Kate Richardson at 17:10.88, and the Lancers placed all five of their scored runners in the top 15. Bountiful’s scored racers included Trisha Thompson in sixth at 17:19.27, while Woods Cross’ top finisher was Carlee Hansen in third at 17:03.03. Her teammate Michelle Christian rounded out the top five in fifth at 17:15.75.
Woods Cross’ Jason Davis won the boys’ race in a time of 14:00.88, beating Bridger Altice and Max Wehrli of Northridge, who finished second and third respectively. Jalen Anderton of Farmington was fourth at 14:35.50, and Bountiful’s Dalton Mortensen was fifth at 14:37.78.
Runners traversed a 2.75 course in the park for this annual event that was started back in the 1980s by the Davis Clipper.
Runners will compete in more invitationals and region meets before the state championships set for Wednesday, Oct. 17 at Sugarhouse Park and Highland High School.
