Region play begins for volleyball teams

Davis, Bountiful and Woods Cross enjoyed volleyball wins last week while Viewmont and Farmington lost their matches early in region play.


Davis battled back from two sets down to defeat Clearfield 23-25, 18-25, 25-15, 25-20, 15-13 on Sept. 20.

The Darts were led by Katie Corelli with 19 kills and 16 digs while Katie Aamodt recorded 11 kills and 15 digs. Lexi Sunderland led defensively with 17 digs.

“Oh my gosh! We fought our way back to pull it off!” head coach Lori Salvo said. “It was a great comeback for our kids. We were down two and pulled it off!”

At the Dart Classic that Davis hosted Sept. 22, the sophomore and junior varsity squads both placed fifth out of seven teams.


Bountiful got its sixth win of the season with a four-set victory over Farmington 25-19, 25-18, 11-25, 25-10 on Sept. 18.

Baily Jenkins put away nine kills while Sayler Larson had eight for the Braves. Kennedy Poulton led the squad defensively with 15 digs.

“Farmington was a tough opponent for our first region match,” said head coach Sarah Chism. “It was good to see the team learn how to fight for a win.”

Against Roy on Sept. 20, Bountiful won in three sets 25-16, 25-17, 25-11.

The Braves’ record stands at 8-6 and 2-0 in Region 5.


Viewmont lost to Woods Cross in five sets on Sept. 20. The Vikings are now 7-12 with a 0-1 Region 5 record.

Woods Cross

Woods Cross defeated Roy 25-23, 25-16, 20-25, 25-8 on Sept. 18.

Against Viewmont, the Wildcats won in five sets Sept. 20.

“Once we settled down, we played good volleyball in the last three sets,” head coach Nicole Hogan said. “These are the growing pains of a young team.”

Woods Cross is 7-4 this season and 2-0 in Region 5 standings.


Farmington lost to Bountiful 19-25, 18-25, 25-11, 10-25 on Sept. 18. Jade Flitton led the Phoenix squad with nine kills while Rylee Brown served four aces and recorded 18 digs.

Against Box Elder Sept. 20, Farmington lost 25-10, 25-11, 22-25, 25-14.

Madi Gundry and Flitton led the team offensively with 11 kills each while Delaney Baker recorded seven blocks and Brown had 26 digs.

Farmington is now 6-8 on the season and 0-2 in Region 5 play.
