KAYSVILLE–The Davis High softball team will again be led by All-State players Mia Cullimore and Carley Croshaw, with seniors Whitney Crowley and Laura Baird expected to play key roles on and off the field for the defending region champion Darts squad who finished fifth at state last year.
“We just want to become better, keep moving forward and become a team,” head coach Mylei Zachman, who is in her 18th year at Davis, said.
So far this season, the Darts are 8-3-1 with wins over Cedar 8-7, Union 11-1, Lehi 11-5, Northridge 15-1, Stansbury 8-2, Clearfield 10-3, Weber 12-1 and Ridgeline 10-1 and losses to Bingham 6-5, Lake City 4-3 and Stansbury 7-6 and a tie with Springville 5-5.
Davis is also scheduled to play region home-and-away matchups with Weber, Clearfield, Syracuse, Fremont and Layton. They will also compete at the Syracuse Invite April 21.
Cullimore leads the team with a .425 batting average while Croshaw (.389), junior Maggie Miller (.389), junior Paige Elkins (.367) and Crowley (.333) are also key offensively for the Darts. Cullimore has a 4-2 record on the mound for Davis.
Also on the team this season are juniors Sidney Eyre, Jalia Moon and Rachel Stott; sophomores Britney Brklacich, Danielle Brklacich, Bentley Fuller, Marli Gibbs, Lexi Sunderland and Kya Wilmott; and freshmen Ellie Anderson, Emily Dent, Lauren Gray, Brooklyn Johns and Alayna Stoddard.
“We really just want to become the best team this group is capable of becoming and enjoy playing the game,” Zachman said.
