It’s nearly time for league play to begin in Region 5, as Davis County teams are using the tune-up games to improve their play. Viewmont and Woods Cross head into this week’s games with 2-1 records, while Bountiful is 2-1. Viewmont A week after a close two-point loss to cross-town rival Davis, Viewmont got back on the winning track with a 31-10 victory over Green Canyon.

The Vikings scored at the end of the first quarter on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Dutcher Lines to Robert Summerhays. Following a 24-yard field goal from Gabe Johnson, the Vikings went up 18-0 on a 39-yard TD run from Wyatt Curnow and a successful two-point conversion.

Viewmont went scoreless in the third quarter but still led 18-10 as the final quarter began. Summerhays scored his second TD of the game in the fourth, cross the goal line from 2 yards out. Sam Trusty then picked off a Green Canyon pass and took it 33 yards for a score just 18 seconds later for the final points of the contest.

Summerhays had a huge game, racking up 192 yards in addition to his two touchdowns. Curnow and Lines added 50 and 41 yards, respectively, part of the Vikings’ 309 yards on the ground. The Vikings play at Skyridge on Friday before jumping into region play at home against Farmington the following week. Woods Cross The Wildcats bounced back from a blowout loss to Alta with an offensive explosion in a 56-21 rout of West. Woods Cross piled up 34 points in the first half alone, getting 24 in the first quarter and 10 more in the second, all while blanking the Panthers.

Quarterback Carston Naegle accounted for four of the five first-half touchdowns. He passed for three TDs—one to Jordan Johnson and two to Braden Freestone—and also ran for another. The second half was more competitive, but the Wildcats had long put the game away. Jordan Johnson and Cole Wardle caught touchdown passes from Naegle in the third quarter, making it five TD connections for the 5-foot-10-inch senior. Tucker Goodfellow hit a third-quarter field goal, and Jemmar Thomas converted a 12-yard TD run in the fourth to cap off the Wildcats’ impressive night.

Woods Cross takes its 2-1 record to Logan this Friday before hosting Roy next week in Region 5 action. Bountiful The Braves tried to make it two in a row over Class 6A foes last week but fell to Granger 28-21 in a tight road contest. Zach Riordan had an 11-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to knot things up at 7-7, but the Braves didn’t score again the 10-minute mark of the third quarter when they already trailed 21-7. Riordan hit Hudson Gallagher for a 9-yard score to close the gap to 21-14. Riordan then teamed up with Chance Sterrett from 3 yards out with six minutes remaining the game to tie the game at 21-21. Granger then drove the ball down the field and scored the winning touchdown with 29 seconds to play, dropping the Braves to 1-2. Bountiful’s next game is this Friday at home against another 6A opponent, Syracuse.
