Volleyball wrap: Mixed results last week


by Catherine Garrett Clipper sportswriter Farmington won both of its matches last week in straight sets while Davis and Bountiful went 1-1 with Viewmont and Woods Cross losing both of its matches. Davis Davis started off strong with a 25-19 first set against Bountiful Aug. 28 before a back-and-forth battle that went five sets. The Braves outlasted the Darts 15-7 in the final set. Junior Olivia Watts led Davis offensively with 16 kills while sophomore Katie Corelli and junior Hadley Grant recorded seven of the team’s 10 blocks. Against Viewmont Aug. 30, the Darts won in straight sets 25-16, 25-17, 25-22. Corelli pounded 15 kills and served five aces to lead Davis while also recording 13 digs. Watts had seven kills, three aces and 12 digs while Sunderland led defensively with 21 digs. Davis is 6-3 this season.Bountiful Bountiful found themselves down a set against Davis Aug. 28 and then down 2 sets to 1 before winning the final two sets to secure the victory over the Darts. Against Riverton Aug. 30, the Braves were down by two sets early before battling back to win set 3 27-25, but came up short in the fourth set 25-23 to lose 3-1 to the Silverwolves. Bountiful is 1-1 this year.Viewmont Viewmont lost 23-25, 25-15, 23-25, 13-25 to Northridge Aug. 28. The Vikings also lost to Davis 25-16, 25-17, 25-22 Aug. 30. Viewmont is now 2-6 on the young season. Woods Cross Woods Cross defeated Taylorsville 25-22, 25-20, 25-23 Aug. 28. Against American Fork Aug. 30, the Wildcats lost in straight sets 25-15, 25-12, 25-8. The Wildcats are now 1-3.Farmington Farmington defeated Logan in straight sets 25-10, 25-14, 25-19 in its first home match. The Phoenix squad were led by freshman Madison Gundry with eight kills and eight digs while senior Jade Flitton recorded seven kills and seven digs. Freshman Taylor Russon ran the offense and had 21 assists while junior Rylee Brown served five aces. Farmington’s season record is 4-5.
