BOUNTIFUL—Carmen Rasmusen, a Top 6 finalist on the second season of FOX’s “American Idol” in 2003, will be the headline performer at this year’s Bountiful Handcart Days celebration. She will be performing on Friday, July 20, at 8 p.m. in Bountiful City Park, following the conclusion of the annual Handcart Days parade.
She has appeared on many talk and entertainment shows including David Letterman, the Today Show, MSNBC, and Good Morning America. She was also a contestant on NBC’s “Fear Factor” and made it to the final round.
Carmen completed a nationwide radio tour promoting her first full-length album titled “Nothin’ Like the Summer” in the summer of 2007 and released a single by the same name which she co-wrote. Her music video won the “Pick it or Flick it” competition on CMT’s Top 20 Countdown.
She has written two books, “Staying in Tune” and “You are More,” geared toward young women where she talks about her experiences in the entertainment industry and how her faith and values helped keep her grounded. Her books can be found at Deseret Book stores, as well as her talk on CD, “Who’s Your Idol?”
Carmen enjoys giving firesides and speaking at youth and family conferences all over the US and Canada and has been a favorite speaker at Deseret Book’s “Time Out for Girls” tour.
Carmen currently writes a column for the Deseret News about faith, family, entertainment, and the adventures of raising four boys with her husband. Her new single “Illuminate” is now available on iTunes. Learn more by visiting her official website at carmenrasmusen.com.
The public is encouraged to bring blankets to the park, and then to stay after the concert for a dance and performance by Leaping Lulu. Fireworks will follow at about 10 p.m. at Mueller Park Jr. High School.
Her performance is just one of many that will take place in the park over the two-day celebration (see sidebar). Watch for more information in next week’s Davis Clipper or visit the Handcart Days website www.handcartdays.org.
