Suspect arrested in Layton shooting

LAYTON—Detectives located and arrested a suspect Friday in connection with the shooting of a man in a Layton mobile home park who later died in a Preston, Idaho hospital.

Angel Christopher Abreu, 22, was booked into the Davis County Jail on charges of aggravated murder, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated burglary. A 16-year-old male was identified as a second suspect and was arrested at a different location in Ogden Saturday morning, Sept. 29, according to police. He was booked on the same charges.

The incident began when the Layton Police Department was notified that a man had sought medical treatment in Preston for gunshot wounds. Preston police officers learned that the man had been shot at a Layton mobile home at 2500 N. Fort Lane, officials said.

Layton police officers contacted several individuals at the address and found out two armed, masked men entered the residence in an attempted robbery. During the robbery multiple rounds were fired and the victim was hit several times, according to police. At the victim’s request, two acquaintances drove him to the Preston hospital were he later died. The victim was identified as Anthony Child, 26, of Layton.

While searching the mobile home, police found an active mushroom growing operation, lab equipment used in the extraction of THC from marijuana and distribution amounts of marijuana, said officials.

Three other suspects at the mobile home were taken into custody during the investigation and booked into the Davis County Jail. Kevin Content was charged with obstruction of justice, possession of a controlled substance; Devon Miller, possession of a controlled substance, obstruction of justice, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, possession of drug paraphernalia; Douglas Cordova, endangerment of a child, possession of drug paraphernalia.
