Sgt. Scott Isakson said police believe the 51-year-old man was the person who handed a teller a note at the Zions Bank, 5 N. Main here and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash at 9:39 a.m.
A patrol car saw a vehicle matching the suspect’s description a short time later and pursued him. The suspect pulled his car into the J&L Garden Center, pulled out a knife and began stabbing himself. Isakson said a officer was able to break out a car window and taser the man, before handcuffing him.
The garden center was closed while a medical helicopter landed. The man, believed to be from Idaho, was taken to the University of Utah Medical Center. and was reportedly still alive Friday afternoon. The man’s name was not released.
There were no other injuries related to the incident.
